Nutty For “Nutella” Vegan Milkshake

Nutty For Nutella Milkshake by Vegan À La Mode (Vegan, Gluten-Free and Refined Sugar-Free)

Wondering where I’ve been? Well, I have been living on planet “nutella” since last Sunday. My obsession with vegan “nutella” started when my friend Claire, blogger of Healthy Fare With Claire, posted her recipe for a vegan and refined sugar-free Nutella-inspired chocolate hazelnut spread. Once I saw how decadent it looked, even just drizzled over strawberries, I knew I had to make it. It did not fail to impress me to say the least! From there, I was brainstorming up all sorts of desserts (and even breakfasts!) to use it in. The first on my list was a vegan milkshake that would rival those from KindKreme in Culver City!

This shake proves that following a health-focused vegan lifestyle is anything but boring! With a smooth swirl of homemade vegan “nutella” and a creamy base of frozen bananas and dates, this shake is the sweetest vegan treat you will ever make! But no sugar rushes will ensue since it’s completely free of refined sugar! The first time I made it, I was way too eager to photograph it  for the blog. But the second time, I decided it was definitely worthy of a blog post. I must admit though, it was so tough to not drink the whole thing once I poured it from the blender. I was tempted to take a sip the whole time I was taking photos!

For the vegan “nutella”, you can get the recipe from Claire’s post here!  If you don’t have the time though, you can always use a store-bought vegan version such as Justin’s or Rawtella. But I promise you, the homemade version is worth the work and also cheaper!

Nutty For Nutella Milkshake (Vegan, Gluten-Free and Refined Sugar-Free)

Ingredients

2-3 spoonfuls of vegan “nutella” (recipe)

2 frozen bananas

4-5 pitted Mejdool dates

4-6 ice cubes

1 cup of almond milk (or other non-dairy milk)

Directions

1. Add (in this order) almond milk, ice, bananas, dates, and “nutella” into a high-speed blender.

2. Blend until smooth. Add more dates if you want it sweeter! For a thicker milkshake, add in an extra frozen banana.

3. Drizzle a spoonful of “nutella” into an empty glass before pouring the milkshake for a chocolate swirl effect. Enjoy :)

My brother is obsessed with Nutella (the real, non-vegan, totally crappy one) and for years I’ve been saying I’m going to make him a healthy version. I’ve seen recipes floating around, and they all look amazing, but I’ve never actually done it! You’ve inspired me. This milkshake looks ridic.

Thanks Jenni!! I think you could impress your brother with this! My boyfriend loves it and he’s usually kinda picky when it comes to dessert (they can’t be too rich and have to be pretty sweet for him to like haha) and he loves this nutella. I know there’s a bunch of versions out there but this was the first one I saw that actually looked creamy like the original so I was convinced to make it. Plus it makes any milkshake taste 1000 times more decadent! Let me know if you try it :)
