Hope you all have been having a great winter! One of my favorite winter activities this year has been spending time in Big Bear, CA. My boyfriend loves snowboarding so this year I took ski lessons with my friend Claire and quickly fell in love with it! But before going, I had to stock my wardrobe with snow friendly clothing and found that it was quite the challenge to find wool-free/down-free pieces. So I’m sharing with you all the cruelty-free winter essentials I love! If you hover over the photo above and below then you’ll see the tags for each piece.
Beanies: My favorite cold weather accessory is beanies! Luckily it’s not too tough to find wool-free versions. I’m wearing a Forever 21 ribbed pom pom beanie I got two years ago so it’s sadly sold out but I’ve tagged a similar one! H&M and Forever 21 are great places to look for these because they are usually made from acrylic or cotton instead of wool. Just check the tag to verify.
Gloves: Another challenging item to find is gloves because they are often filled with down. But I lucked out at a snow shop and found these Burton gloves which are actually filled with recycled polyester which makes them eco-friendly as well as vegan friendly! They also have faux-leather details on the inside and have a warm fleece lining.
Jacket: I chose this Jessica Simpson Faux Fur Hooded Jacket even though it isn’t a true snow jacket because it happens to be snow and water resistant! When shopping for snow jackets, check the tag to make sure they aren’t insulated with down. You can find ones that have a polyester filling instead. Also be sure your faux fur is really fur by checking the materials on the tag!
Pants: Snow pants are notoriously bulky and baggy! I dreaded having to wear snow pants but sought to find a skinny pair. I succeeded too! I found these Volcom skinny stretch snow pants which are so great! I love them because they have a lot of freedom to move but still have a slim fit.
Underlayers: Since Big Bear hasn’t been below 40 degrees when I’m there, I didn’t need too many layers. I just wore a pair of Beyond Yoga leggings and a thermal long sleeve top. If you’re in colder climates then go for fleece lined leggings like this zig zag pair from Threads For Thought.
Shoes: I don’t own a great pair of snow shoes (yet!) but I’ve got some suggestions for you! This lace-up pair of snow boots from DSW are cute and under $100! This faux fur pair is also pretty stylish!
