On Sunday night Thomas and I headed to Mount Helix to watch the supermoon lunar eclipse. We got there an hour and a half early to ensure a good spot. The eclipse was gorgeous and well worth the wait. I stayed cozy in a sweater and dress combo look while watching. It was the perfect night.

Back when Thomas and I went camping in Julian in late July, we got to take some photos of the “blue moon”. It was overcast though so we didn’t get the shots we had hoped for but tonight we lucked out with clear skies. Thomas got really incredible photos of the whole eclipse. It was amazing to see the moon begin to rise over the mountains and then turn a blood orange shade once it rose and was fully eclipsed. This was the first time I’ve ever watched an eclipse so it was really special to see with Thomas by my side
Astronomy has always fascinated but unfortunately I have never excelled in science. But tonight I loved learning from Thomas all about the eclipse and the supermoon and how exactly it comes about. If you don’t know, the eclipse is when the earth passes between the sun and the moon shadowing it. Then the supermoon happens when Earth is at its closest point to the moon which makes it appear larger. Though this exact event won’t happen again until 2033, I recommend catching the next eclipse when it arrives. You can view all the dates of upcoming eclipses here!
For our night watching the eclipse under the stars, I layered a cozy oversize sweater atop my Old Navy floral dress I purchased last year. I paired it with my favorite vegan ankle boots which I also got last year. I love them because they look like Rag & Bone boots but are far more affordable and cruelty-free! Since my exact pair are sold out, I linked a similar pair that’s only $34 at Tilly’s!
